Question: how does exploratory talk help EAL reason in maths?
During our time out we thought about our baseline assessment and how we should test out the different types of talk in the class. We have chosen to focus on EAL.
To start this off we decided to have a guided maths group, (CMA)with focus children with English as their additional language. Through this we will assess which types of talk children are currently using and how effectively are the using it.
We have also decided to add sentence starters and questions that children will ask each other allowing them to reason and criticise their partners opinions/ their opinions. We will be trialling these in our classrooms after we have completed the baseline assessment.
