Homework is given out every Thursday and expected in your class tray on Tuesday.
Big Talk homework is distributed by your teacher every two weeks.
Spelling words are posted on this page each week for all groups. They are tested every week.
Your class PE day is Thursday. Please remember your full PE kit on this day.
Please read every day at home. Bring your completed reading record into school on Tuesday.
Please write in pencil for maths. When you have a pen licence you may write in black pen only (not biro).
Year 2 Curriculum MapSummer 1 Topic - Significant People
Building Learning Power: You will need to be a noticing newt this term as we observe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will also need to be persevering penguins in our DT lessons when we learn to sew.
At the beginning of the term, we will be learning how to structure a recount using time adverbials to sequence our ideas. We will be thinking about how to add detail to our writing.
Would you like to know how to plant a bean seed? This term year 2 will be writing instructions to let you know how. Later on in the term we will read a range of different poems and learn some by heart.
We will also go on a poetry walk to the playground to collect some wonderful describing words. Our focus on grammar, spelling and punctuation will continue this term. Do you know the difference between a statement, command, exclamation and question? What an exciting term this will be!
Calling all problem solvers… this half term we will be putting our learning into practise by looking at a range of worded problems. Not only will you have to add and subtract to find the solution, you will also be multiplying and dividing to get the answers.
Combined with real life problems involving money, measurement and time, you will be able to apply your maths to any situation.
This term we are learning all about plants. Do you know the difference between a seed and a bulb? Well, you’ll have the opportunity to plant your own at school to determine the best conditions for them to germinate and grow. We’ll be labelling parts of the plant and explaining their different jobs.
Have a look in your garden or local park to see what flowers and plants you already recognise and by the end of this unit, hopefully you’ll recognise even more.
We are games testers. Have you ever wondered how your favourite video games are made and tested? This term we will be finding out how games testers work. We will make predictions about how different games work and evaluating how to improve them.
To begin our new unit on significant people we will be learning about Grace Darling. We will be using historical sources to gather information and asking our own questions about who she was.
In our ‘exploring sounds’ unit we will create musical patterns, which will allow us to explore, choose and organise sounds.
Art & Design Technology
It’s a puppet! This term we will enjoy a visit from an experienced puppeteer and use the skills we have learned to assemble and combine materials to make our very own puppets.
Wonderful water! This term we will learn the important role that water plays in the religions of Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism.
There are significant people all around us. This term we will be learning about significant people from the UK, as well as those from other cultures and countries.
This term in PE we will be playing outdoor invasion games where we will learn what it means to attack and defend.
This term we will be learning new vocabulary related to family and simple food items.
In assemblies this term KS1 will learn more about the 4 Rs of Building Learning Power: Reflectiveness, Reciprocity, Resilience and Resourcefulness. We will enjoy Year 1 and Reception class assemblies too.
This term we will be looking at how to develop and maintain a variety of healthy relationships and manage emotions within these.
We have the opportunity to plant our own seeds and bulbs this term and will be able to watch them grow.
We will be developing skills of empathy and respect through our PSHCE unit concerning people around us.
