Summer 1 Topic - Groovy Greeks!Building Learning Power:
Year 4 will develop their planning skills as they plan their Greek feast. They will also be capitalising on the political ’Julius Caesar’ to learn about political systems.
English
Year 4 will be learning about the plays of William Shakespeare. As part of this, we will be focusing on the language and structure of plays and drawing on features of the play to debate, persuade and recount.
This term our grammar focuses will be: conjunctions, noticing root words, the correct uses of apostrophes, com- mas for clauses, prepositions and much more!
Year 4’s spelling focuses will be: common suffixes and prefixes.
Maths
Survey says…!
This term, Year 4 will be learning and developing their mathematical understanding of statistics. They will be representing data in a variety of different graphs and then using them to find and calculate information and solve problems!
Science
‘Habitat, habitat, you have to have a habitat to carry on!’
Year 4 will be exploring and investigating Habitats. They will be roaming around the school grounds to investigate different habitats and how animals adapt to survive.
Computing
We are toy designers! We will design, write and debug programs. We will work on sequences and use logical reasoning to explain how simple algorithms work.
History
Democracy, Oligarchy, Monarchy and Aristocracy: which one would you like to live in? Year 4 will be looking at the benefits of different political systems in Ancient Greece (and ancient Rome with Julius Caesar!).
Music
‘Good Children Eat Apples!’ 4JA and 4LE will continue to learn ukulele. We will be learning new chords and exciting songs. Don’t forget to practise!
Art & Design Technology
Do you fancy a Greek mixed platter? Year 4 will be designing and creating their own meal. Who will be a master chef this term?
Religious Education
Year 4 will be learning about moral dilemmas and how religious beliefs can help people to solve these.
Geography
Greece is the word, the word that you heard! Year Four will be looking at why the city states in Greece developed in isolation and contrasting that to a more unified modern day Greece.
Physical Education
4CV will be plunging head first into swimming. They will also be learning about water safety.
French
Tête, épaules, genoux et pieds, genoux et pieds! Year Four will be developing their French vocabulary by learning about the body.
BASICS
In assemblies this term KS2 will learn more about the 4 Rs of Building Learning Power: Reflectiveness, Reciprocity, Resilience and Resourcefulness. We will enjoy Year 1 and Reception class assemblies too.
PSHCE
People Around Us
Year 4 will learn to recognise and manage emotions within a range of relationships. They will also learn how to respect equality and diversity in relationships.
Enrichment
Year 4 will be participating in an exciting Shakespeare workshop. They will also be making Greek treats and looking at Habitats in their local environment.
Global Citizenship
Year Four will be investigating how our culture has been influenced by the Ancient Greeks, including a close-up look at political systems.
