This term we will be studying stories that take place in a variety of exciting settings and cultures. We will explore new environments around the world and use our descriptive writing skills to write an imaginative and detailed story.

Have you ever been really surprised? Handa’s Surprise will take you on an exciting adventure through the African desert. What animals will you meet? What exotic smells do you notice? What delicious fruits might you see? We will be using our acting skills to re-enact the story to really engage our senses. Then we will write in the past-tense and use adjectives and adverbs to bring it to life.

Get your basket, just like Handa did, and gather your writing techniques to surprise yourself, your parents and your teachers!

dren begin to make arrays by making equal groups and building them up in columns or rows. They use a range of concrete and pictorial representations alongside sentence stems to support their understanding.

Then they will learn fractions. The children explore finding a half using shapes and sets of objects, using the vocabulary ‘half’ and ‘whole’. Also they will develop their understanding of equal parts and non-equal parts and relate this to a shape of object being split up into four equal parts.

1DS’s assembly will teach us all the basics of the four Seasons and we will use our science lessons to gain a deeper understanding of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. What causes the seasons to change? Why do the leaves fall off the trees in autumn? When it is summer here in England, what season is it in Australia? All these questions and more will be explored.

We will also be designing a science experiment to measure the rainfall in summer and we will record our data every week. Some seasons may be windy but this science unit is going to blow you away.

This half term we will be programming our friends to follow our directions. We will then move onto programming beebots and using them to find treasure in and around the classroom.

We will also learn how we have to be extremely safe and sensible when going on the Internet, making sure we surf the web with care. Finally, we will learn how to send an email.

Have you been to a hospital before? What was it like?

This term we will be continuing investigations into the lives of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. These amazing woman were pioneers in the field of nursing! We will be looking at how modern hospitals compare with Victorian hospitals. We will be focusing on the importance of electricity and cleanliness.

‘The sun is shining and the weather is sweet, it makes you want to move, your dancing feet’. This term we will be listening and comparing different genres of music. Have you heard of acoustic, jazz, pop and reggae? We will learn various songs and identify the different instruments we can hear.

Art & Design Technology
This term we will have the exciting opportunity to host our very own animal art exhibition. Tell your grown-ups to come and see your amazing art spectacle.

There will be plenty of artwork for sale along with a behind the scenes look at how it was created during our art weeks. We will learn about famous artists such as Gaudi and we will see how they inspire us to become fabulous artists.

Religious Education

We are going to be exploring beliefs about the natural world and different stories of creation. We are going to be thinking about creating our own world and what rules we would put in place to care for and protect it.

This term, we will be comparing environments and settings through reading stories from other cultures. We will be using our computing skills to communicate with classes from around the world and we will discuss the differences in the four seasons around the world.
