There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo. Or is there? This half term we will look at different books written by the same author. We have chosen to study Julia Donaldson. The aim of the unit is for children to write their own story in the same style as one of her books.

We will be introducing the use of speech marks and paragraphs which the children should begin to use independently in their own stories. Thank you to parents who have lent us a selection of Julia Donaldson books.

Later on in the term we will write non-fiction texts about the Great Fire of London and we will set sail in a beautiful pea-green boat with some traditional poems.

Using number facts, we will solve addition and subtraction problems before moving on to money. Do you know what each coin is worth? Why not start practising at home? You will be using your knowledge to find total amounts and working out the change you would receive from an amount.

We will act out a shop to role play shopkeepers and customers so that you practise using coins. After this it’s time to multiply! Using grouping and patterns Year 2 will be learning their 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables and recognising that grouping can help us to share.

This half term we will continue looking at everyday materials and start to work scientifically to investigate them. How did the materials of the houses in Tudor times affect the Great Fire of London? We will also be investigating what forces are at work around us. What objects can we push? What objects can we pull? How does friction affect the movement of objects on different surfaces?
We Are Detectives! Something suspicious is going on. This term we will learn about using email to help us communicate. Can you use your best sleuth skills to communicate with others and help solve the mystery?
London’s burning! What an exciting unit we have in store! We will be looking back in time to find out what caused London to catch alight.
Singing voices at the ready! This half term Year 2 will be exploring pulse and rhythm We will be identifying the pulse in different pieces of music. Can you feel the beat?
Art & Design Technology
This hands on unit will allow us to explore all different types of materials to create textured collages. We will use charcoal to create smoky scenes caused by the Great Fire of London.
Religious Education
What places are special to you? We will continue to look at special religious places including the types of buildings people worship in.
Using our History topic to help us, we will look at the location of London within England and Great Britain and find the capital city on a map.
Physical Education
In indoor PE this term we will start our first dance topic. Outside, children will develop their coordination skills.
Bonjour! This half term we will start to learn days of the week and months.
KS1 assemblies will focus on Safety and Identity this half term. We will learn the qualities of being a good friend and particularly apply these during Anti-Bullying Week. Road Safety Week is also coming up this half term.
Say NO!

We will be recognising the choices we can make and developing our understanding of what is right and what is wrong.

This half term Year 2 will enjoy putting on their own Christmas Show! We will also be completing our Enabling Enterprise project and learning to become bud- ding entrepreneurs.
We will be sharing and contributing our awareness of similarities and differences between people in RE and make links between our lives and the lives of others through history.
